The George Washington University Capital Medical Group is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Cornea Ophthalmologist to join a respected academic ophthalmology program in the heart of Washington, DC. This position offers a rare blend of high‑quality clinical practice, advanced corneal surgery, and hands‑on medical student and resident education.

 

Candidates will have the opportunity to develop a high volume practice to manage complex corneal and anterior segment diseases, perform cutting‑edge procedures, and contribute to training the next generation of ophthalmologists within a collaborative, well‑supported environment.

  • Employment Type: Full-time (part-time and per diem may be considered)
  • Schedule/Hours: 8 am-5 pm
  • Call: Shared and well-paid
  • Patient Volume: 30-40 patients daily (excluding surgery and admin time)
  • Location: Washington, DC
  • Practice Setting: George Washington Hospital and GW Capital Medical Group (formerly known as Medical Faculty Associates)
  • Support Team: Administrative Assistant, Ophthalmic Technician

Responsibilities

  • Provide management of external disease, anterior segment and cornea procedures like DMEK, DSAEK, PK, refractive surgery (LASIK/PRK), collagen cross-linking, and cataract surgeries to a diverse patient population
  • Educate medical students and ophthalmology residents through didactics and clinical encounters
  • Contribute to the coverage of the GW Hospital Emergency Department. This call is shared with other members and paid per night.

  • Salary: Competitive compensation in the $300K-$400K range, RVU based system with an incentive bonus and separately paid call coverage

Qualifications

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Ophthalmology
  • Fellowship trained in Cornea
  • Experience and interest in academic settings preferred
  • Eligible for licensure in the District of Columbia
